About us – by researchers, for researchers

13.03.2009

In 2001-2006 we were doctoral students at the Philipps University in Marburg. During our own studies we were facing the lack of well researched and presented information about digital recording and computer based transcription. We have now succeeded in changing these circumstances. Our team:

Dr. Thorsten Dresing, manager
master's degree in educational theory, co-founder of audiotranscription.de and since 10/2008 100% involvement in operation management. From 11/2000 through 10/2008 research assistant at Marburg´s Philipps University, doctor degree in 2006. Since 2001 assistant professor for MAXQDA, computer-based analysis of qualitative data and E-Learning.

Thorsten Pehl, manager
master's degree in educational theory, co-founder of audiotranscription.de and in operation management of the dr.dresing&pehl GmbH since 2005. Consulting and coaching for qualitative data analysis, digital recording and transcription. 2005 scholarship of graduate sponsorship of the province of Hessen, Germany.

Geula Pozlevic - order processing
Since January 2009 she has been managing bookkeeping, order processing, stock and telephone support.

David Georgi - transcription service and product testing
Since July 2008, he's been producing test reports of recorders, coordinating our approx. 40 typists and supporting blind and visually impaired users of recorders

Christoph Burgdorf - EDP and bookkeeping
Responsible for EDP equipment and bookkeeping since 2009

The software available at that time was not satisfactory because most programs were too complicated to use or were not compatible with new operating systems. Furthermore, none of them would support USB footswitches. We decided to change the situation by creating a self-financed information site (now audiotranscription.us), programming a new transcription software (f4), as well as building a self-developed USB footswitch (f-Pro).

Qualitative researchers must collect and transcribe data before they can go on to analysing it with applications like Atlas.ti, MAXqda, NVivo, paper, pens and scissors. Before students and other users can use their interview notes, essays, language exercises, field notes, they have to be able to record and transcribe them. These days computers are perfectly able to support the recording and transcription of verbal data, but to date there has been no systematic, comprehensive overview of the options available.

In the meantime we have established an outstanding service and have received a lot of positive feedback from our customers. With more than 50,000 people visiting our website each month, more than 10,000 customers and more than 80,000 software downloads, we have become one of the main hubs in Europe, especially when it comes to providing top quality information about digital recording and transcription solutions.

We also guarantee fast delivery and exceptionally low prices for all the products we recommend and produce ourselves. By providing thoroughly grounded information, free software and a handy USB footswitch, we hope to support the leap into the world of digital recording and computer-supported transcription. Our experience of research processes as doctoral students plus feedback from users will allow us to continue collecting and developing information and to provide (free) technical solutions.

We wish you happy, successful transcription and research and would be pleased to answer any questions!
