An ergonomic rocker switch makes it possible to record, rewind and overwrite. The DS-2400 is an optimal solution for small offices. The dictations can be directly downloaded on the typist's computer or they are sent via e-mail from the computer of the dictating person. The SD card, which is included in delivery, stores up to 175 hours of dictation. The transcription is easily done with the transcription kit DS-2400 or AS-5000, both by Olympus.

Differences DS-2400 and DS-5000

In contrast to the dictating machines of the so-called „Pro-Line“, the considerably cheaper price is quite remarkable. Why is this? Here are the main differences of dictating machines and software.

1. Operation concept: sliding vs. rocking switch

The DS-5000 has a sliding switch, as many may still know from older gadgets. Many users swear by this way of dictating. The DS-2400 is equipped with a rocking switch. In our opinion, this operation concept is at least as ergonomic as the other one. The decision on the preferable concept is, in the end, a matter of taste and habit.

 

2. Charge function: internal or external

The DS-2400 can be operated with batteries or accumulators. The accumulators, however, can't be charged when inside the device itself. Therefore, you need an external charger. The DS-5000 charges the rechargeable batteries either automatically in the docking station or via USB port.

 

3. Package content: with or without docking station

The docking station for easy attachment to a computer is included in the delivery of the DS-5000. The DS-2400 is attached via USB cable as standard. A docking station is optionally obtainable for 99 euros net. This way, the difference in the devices' prices is reduced.

 

4. Work processes: Fully or semi automatic

In the delivery of the Olympus DS-2400 there is included a software, the DSS-Player Standard. This software allows the automatic download of dictations as soon as the dictating machine is attached to the computer. The dictations are saved to a random (network) folder It is also possible to send dictations via e-mail. But this does not happen automatically, in contrast to the DS-5000. These are the fields where the DS-5000 has its strengths: automation and dictation management. Here, (Secure)FTP, MAPI, POP3, IMAP, Citrix and Terminal Server, Priorities and a central administration of hard- and software are supported. Therefore, the DS-5000 makes it possible to display complex work processes. The DS-2400 profits of this technology by concentrating on the basic dictating functions. It thus qualifies as a good solution for a small or medium-sized dictation amount which does not put demands on a workflow depiction. The dictations can be sent via e-mail only manually or they are transferred to a file that is used together with the typist.
