Hidden object picture Qualitative research

23.12.2025

Invitation to take a look

Qualitative research encompasses a broad spectrum of epistemological positions, methodological approaches and evaluation procedures. What they have in common is working with open data – texts, images, audio and video recordings, social media content and more – as well as an interpretative approach to understanding social phenomena. The hidden object picture shows this diversity: from theoretical foundations such as symbolic interactionism to established methods such as grounded theory and qualitative content analysis to quality criteria for qualitative research.

This hidden object picture was created for the Berlin Methods Meeting 2025 (BMT) – the largest event for qualitative researchers in the German-speaking world. Around 450 interested people meet there every year to learn and discuss how different qualitative research can look in over 40 different workshops and research workshops.

audiotranskription has been on site since the first BMT in 2005, presenting support services with a stand and workshops. To mark the 20th anniversary of both our company and BMT, we commissioned the artist and qualitative researcher Dr. Britta Wagner to create this hidden object picture of qualitative methods. We think she did a great job! We exhibited the work as a 3 × 2 meter billboard at the BMT 2025, where it promptly became a photo magnet.

All graphics are available here in digital form. You may use them freely, provided you cite the source. Have fun with it!
